Novelletum
welcomes previously unpublished works of prose, poetry, critical essay, reviews,
blogs, and varied visual arts year round. Submissions are accepted by e-mail
only at chief@novelletum.com.
In the subject line, use your name and the genre of the submission,
as in,
"Jane Smith poetry" or "William Jones visual art"
In the body of the e-mail include the following information in the
outlined order
1. your name as you would like for it to appear in print
2. your school (or alma mater)
3. your year in school, as in, freshman, sophomore, junior, senior (or graduation
date)
4. your phone number (for our records and not for publication)
5. a brief biographical sketch about yourself
6. title of the piece and genre
7. for artwork, include a description of the piece such as size and medium
Attach to the e-mail, the submission. Submissions must be
in a standard 12 pt. font (we prefer Times New Roman). The document must be
Word (.doc), text (.txt) or rich text (.rtf). We cannot open Mac documents
and .wps documents.
Acceptable Submissions
You may send different items to us, but each item must be in a separate e-mail.
In other words, do not send a poetry submission and a short story attached
to the same e-mail. Multiple submissions attached to one e-mail will be disregarded.
Poetry
1. submit five or fewer pieces
2. single space poems
3. use Times New Roman or Arial font
4. fancy fonts and creative spacing will not be used
Prose
(fiction, non-fiction, screenplays, plays, and critical or research essays)
1. submit one piece no more than 20 pages long of 12 pt, double spaced type
2. fancy fonts and creative spacing will not be used
Art
1. submit one piece
2. high quality JPEGs
3. image must be 4 x 6 or smaller
A few notes on submissions:
We will publish your work once a year. If you are published in the November
issue, then you won’t be published in the April issue.
Please submit only once until you have heard back from us about your first
submission.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted but only if noted in the initial email
and only if the author agrees to notify us immediately if the piece is accepted
elsewhere. Previously published work, however, will not be accepted.
A few notes on questions:
It may take us up to three months to read and decide which works to publish,
please don’t ask about your submission until at least three months have
lapsed. When you do have a question about your work, write Question in the
subject line of the e-mail and give us the date, genre, and title of piece
of your original submission.
We unfortunately cannot offer compensation outside the realm of publicity.
Novelletum acquires first-time North American rights upon publication.
